My mother does something similar but difference sauce Yep any sauce you like will work. That was the kind of sauce I had so that's what I used. Its the browned hamburger and diced onion that really make any sauce a lot better. Turned out great!

We are a strictly make our own sauce crowd. Sometimes we make meatballs too. Not one iota of Italiano.

I made a pot of spaghetti sauce yesterday for tonight’s dinner. 1 large can tomato sauce, i large can Italian tomatoes cut with scissors into chunks, a larger size can of tomato paste. Sautéed mushrooms then onions then garlic together. Added large amounts of oregano and basil and sautéed some more to release essential oils. Salt and fresh ground pepper. Added that all to the big pan. Then cooked up 2lbs of ground wagyu beef we happened to have in the freezer. Added that to the pot and a cup of red wine. Simmered for 5 hours then fridges it. 3 more hours simmering today then served over spaghetti squash. No pasta as we are on our annual 45 day Pagan Lent.
Plenty leftover so we’ll have some containers to put in the freezer for later. Delish!

A trip to the store would've saved me hours in the kitchen.

Like you when I make my own I make a giant pot of it and freeze some of it.
