I posted this on Heeeyyy's board and thought I would post it here also.
You could do this with other foods but especially with milk and bread. I always look at the expiration date on the ones that are in the front. Then I reach as far back as I can and many times the expiration date is much later. So many times I have had to throw out expired milk and bread. So the later the expiration date the less I need to throw out.

Bread expires? Just dry them in the oven then turn them into bread crumbs. These will keep in the freezer until used.

Bread expires? Sure it does. Turns green with mold. Your idea is OK but I always have some of this in my cupboard.

Point being...bread in our house doesn’t expire before we turn it into bread crumbs. Then we don’t need to buy any unless we run out. Progressive is a great brand.

This is what I do with a lot of old bread (before its moldy) instead of throwing it out. Instead of suet cakes I will put the old slices of bread in one of these and hang it on a bird stand. (or from a tree branch)

It's true they put the later dates in the back so they can sell the ones that expire sooner. I noticed that at 7 eleven also
