My Poodle has gained a few couple lbs and twice he wet in the floor, uncharacteristic for him. I took him to the vet last week and he got a checkup. He has diabetes and has to get two insulin shots a day. I'm the one that administers the shots. He's doing fine now. Dogs can still live a long life even if they have diabetes and receive treatment.

Is he on a diet now? I took my dog to the vet today cuz she seemed under the weather. Vet told me she's overweight and if she lost a pound it would make a huge difference on her joints and overall health. So no more treats or people food for her. She has to lose weight.

Yes, They told me treats really don't hurt a dog that much. You do want to avoid table foods. Especially things like bologna, hot dogs and the like. Foods like that not only will cause them to be over weight but they cause diabetes also.
