We have NO IDEA, what comes in those 'PREMIXED' ingredients from China & India...where the additive's are grown for the vitamin supplements part of the pet food recipes.

Why is our government allowing the Chinese to deceive American consumers?
If I buy something from eBay and check on the 'US Only' box, a list of items comes up supposedly from the US, but if you purchase something, you get a receipt with Chinese lettering and from someone with a Chinese name.
A bunch of goddamned scammers is what they are.

A bunch of goddamned scammers is what they are. You - me - all of us that try to be responsible care givers to our furry family members have been told for years 'the pet food we feed to our loved ones is probably safer then what we humans eat - because of all the safety FDA guidelines that they put those food sources through'; well, we've been lied to many times.
Not only are the very same mineral sources that are used for human vitamins coming from those very same regions --- the same 'WHAT IF' is allowed to be put into our minerals/vitamins --- hell we could be eating floor sweepings for all we know? But it really burns my ass when I've tried to follow those 'SAFEST PET FOOD' guidelines only to find out that nothing was changed --- just the name brand on the sack and the color of that sack.
I started on this 'soap box' about 25 yrs ago when I rescued an unfortunate dog that was allergic to CORN and kept trying to find a dog food that wasn't full of CORN. Sweet Jesus - this issue is a mess; guess I'd just better keep cooking up rice with chicken broth and some shredded carrots & green beans added to it.

You do comprehend what 'Ole Comb Over' thinks of his polling numbers/human supporters --- RIGHT??? Surely you don't need me to spell it out for you - draw you a picture - do the connecting DOTS?
But you dribbling your 'hopeful rhetoric' into any and all topics is quite --- well showing some signs of pure desperation!

If Hillary said, "I could let Ambassador Stevens get murdered and still get votes," she wouldn't be joking.
Back to topic, I've been feeding my dogs Fresh Pet chicken flavor. They'll eat it, but they love people food. I cook them chicken or hamburger with rice, carrots & green beans sometimes too. Do your dogs ever get tired of eating the same thing? I think dogs like variety too.
Now that I have four dogs to feed (btw, the owner never claimed the stray I picked up) I need to buy more food for them and would like something I could make a lot of that would last a couple of weeks.

Actually - a dogs palate isn't as refined as our human taste buds --- they would gladly eat the same thing day-in-day-out and never complain; it's when 'WE' humans start putting our own emotional ties to our fur balls that we create some serious digestive problems for our 4 legged family members.
I have 2 - 22# Shih Tzu mixes and 1 - 20# Lhasa Apso...I've been cooking up a goodly amount of rice with either chicken broth/beef broth for 13 yrs now. Zero tarter - I've never had to scrub their teeth - they do get an occasional treat biscuit {I used to make those from scratch too} but had to give that up some time back.
They'll enjoy some carrot sticks - or green beans with me while I'm reading but there's plenty of treats that should never be given to any canine and the WWW has lots of printed material regarding that issue.
We've come such a long way from the days of my dear pops; snagging up a couple of hens and chopping their heads off and cleaving them into quarters and tossing those parts {bones and all} into the coon dogs he raised...makes me shutter just typing it! Poor ole faithful dogs...dang!

Poor ole faithful dogs...dang! So they get all their vitamins just from eating boiled chicken and rice? Doesn't the broth have salt? I heard that's bad for dogs. I also heard from the vet that they need to eat dog food because it has vitamins that they need. My Chihuahuas have tarter build-up and I'm planning to take them in to have their teeth cleaned, but I hate to put them through that. I wonder if just changing their diet would help remove the tarter. I give my dogs those bacon treats that they have for dogs, but only one each every other day, plus the dog biscuits. I took my dog to the vet the other day because she wasn't feeling well, and he told me she needs to lose some weight and that those bacon treats are high calorie. My dogs beg all the time. They always want people food like they have human taste buds.

I only purchase 'Low Salt' broth --- never use those cubes {they are loaded with sodium} or I save up my own {chicken or beef} and keep it refrigerated until I need it. Those FAKE BACON strips: OMG...they are full of CRAP that isn't good for your dogs or humans or pigs Tarter - once it's built up on canine teeth it's gotta be removed by brushing/finger rubber tips/or dental cleaning---and having lost a couple petite little Chihuahuas from being put under --- I swore I'd never subject another dog to that unless it was imperative/emergency. Dogs just don't always WAKE UP from being put under.
Since I feed a moist meal {2 Cups/twice a day} to my dogs it's necessary to give them a 'dental' type stick/chew item at least 2 X's a week...they need it for good dental hygiene and gum stimulation too. My local pet store carries some safe/healthy ones. And if you feel the need to absolutely - gotta cave in and give them a treat: bull penis, hoof parts, pigs ears --- all of these digest well and can be cut into smaller sections for your tiny little breed of dogs to gnaw on and enjoy.
NEVER - EVER any of these rawhide sacks of horrible chew things that can cause bowel blockage and are sprayed with some really nasty crap.
BTW - your little ones have trained you well; you cave into their whining and they know it. LOL

Yes, they think I'm here to serve them and obey their orders.
What brand of chew sticks do you get?
I bought some of the 'Plaque Attack', but I read some dogs got very sick with that. I also bought some tablets that dissolve in water and supposed to loosen the plaque, but it makes the water thick-looking and now don't really trust anything. I don't want to take them to get their teeth cleaned. I'll try cleaning them myself.
I bought those Milk Bone biscuits that have ridges to clean teeth but they wouldn't chew them.
As for cooking the chicken, you just cook it in broth, without adding any additional salt or seasonings?

As for cooking the chicken, you just cook it in broth, without adding any additional salt or seasonings? What I was given as a recommendation from several breeders and rescue locations was this preferred link >>> www.onlynaturalpet.com/search
For chew sticks/safe natural treats {no dyes/no glue/no additives} ...and I've never purchased any of their dog food {yet}.
Since I plan my weekly menu: I'll cook up a roast or several chicken leg quarters and I always safe the beef/chicken broth --- I don't season my meat/poultry if I'm needing that broth for my furry family rice meals for that week. If I do season my meat/poultry --- then I have quart containers in the pantry {low sodium} to use for adding to my cooked rice --- those quart container can be used a little at a time {or purchase the can sizes too} but for 4 cups of cooked rice it only takes about 1 Cup of broth {or 2 - cups of rice + 1 - cup of broth + ½ - cup of green beans &/or some shredded carrots = ¼ cup} adjust this to more or less to total no more then what my dogs eat at any one setting. Your wee little 8# or less wouldn't need nearly that much...but you could make it all ahead of time and scoop out ½ cup servings {once in the morning and again at supper time} and nothing in between.
If I make up a large batch and keep it in their covered container in the refrig --- I do scoop out their portions {2-cups total per dog} and warm it up in the microwave --- see I do spoil my older kids too. Just to room temp. though, never to hot.
I'm like you about those 'spray' tarter treatments --- just not sure that one of my more elderly dogs wouldn't have issues {since he seems to have reactions to many things - even those edible heart guard tablets}...so I've never purchased them {yet} but I did read up about them and I've smelled them at the pet stores.
But your little Chi's present a particular problem with trying to clean their teeth --- those teeth are just so tiny and those mouths are so small - even for a rubber covered little human finger to get in there an rub around --- UGH I've had to soak my dogs tooth brushes in a cup with mint flavored mouth wash - it softens those bristles and then I'd cut the length down to make them shorter bristled so they would be easier to use in their mouth. Since I raised the 2 Shih Tzu X's from babies...they are used to this weekly treatment --- but not that Lhaso Apso --- he'll fight me the entire time and then try to destroy that brush...I've had to start giving him a ¼ Dramamine to calm him down to do his weekly treatment.
What's Sydney use on her little black poodle...perhaps she's got some techniques that are even better than my ideas?

Now that I have four dogs, I found that they finish the loaf of Pet Fresh food within a week. It's too expensive for me to buy more of it, so I want to start making the chicken/veggies to mix into it to make more, but I don't want to be in the kitchen cooking all day for them.
I wish I could cook enough food once a week and that'll keep in the fridge all in one container that I can measure out portions. Then take out and warm as needed.
You feed them roast beef too? Mine would love that.
Isn't the mouthwash harmful to them? I would think they would tend to swallow it.
Btw, I've never heard of 'pre-mix' dog food. What is that?
Sydney's dog has diabetes, so he must be on a special diet.

OMG...NOOOOOO, I eat the poultry or beef and if I'm going to serve them the 'BROTH' off of my cooking then I don't season my meat/chicken --- They get the juice and that's all. You could cook up a whole bag of brown rice ahead of time and keep it for many days in the air tight container in the refrig. and add to it as needed for their meals. Just always start out with small offerings to make sure that they will clean up their meals; do make sure that you are feeding them in each separate bowls --- some do eat faster then others and someone will get short changed. LOL
I don't know what all is in the link --- there's lots of stuff I've never ordered: 1.) cost and 2.) my diet plan for my older dogs is working really well. I forgot to tell you about using the oil from the can of salmon/tuna once in while will help keep they're skin from getting to dry and itchy...but it sure doesn't take much to flavor up a serving of their rice dish and too much oil will give them the runs!!!

What do you feed them besides brown rice?
They don't like those dental chews to clean their teeth, so maybe rubbing some tuna oil or something like that will get them to chew them.

Did you miss this other post >>>
For your little ones; I'd start out with really small amounts and try it...don't cave in and feed them anything else - They absolutely won't starve - they will eat what you put in front of them but no more human food unless it's just plain old cooked chicken breast-tiny pieces. But for their small petite size and tiny tummy's they shouldn't eat more then ¼ cup or ½ cup at any one setting. Over weight dogs will become diabetic too and it gets worse as they age.
