I think it is imperative --- and it would greatly behoove humanity --- to develop the ability to live in outer space, and live on other planets. This planet, and star (our Sun) are not going to last forever. Diversification is the #1 way to protect oneself from extinction. "We shouldn't be putting all our eggs in one basket (the Earth)".

movieliker, that's why Elon Musk is so anxious to get to Mars. If there is intelligent life out there though, there is no way they're going to let humans pollute their worlds too.

I wouldn't be too critical of the human race. Other intelligent life may have polluted also. It's not that easy to evolve and develop technology without any consequences. "You need to break a few eggs to make an omelette."
