Oh yea. I don't believe animal 'experts' can be certain just how intelligent whales are.
Maybe they have come to have a healthy respect for humans because of our use of 'tools', etc.

I disagree. I think animals are way more intelligent than people give them credit for, which is very sad considering what they are put through.

I disagree. I think animals are way more intelligent than people give them credit for, which is very sad considering what they are put through.Actually? That's sort of what I'm saying. I don't believe experts know just how smart whales (and elephants, apes, etc) are. I guess what i was trying to say was? Maybe whales have a better grasp on their world than we have on ours. My hunch is they probably do. And they probably 'recognize' us as the animal that uses 'sticks, spears, guns, boats', etc, to wreak havoc among-st them, so they generally, wisely, avoid us.

Yes, I believe they do because they're born already knowing what to do on instinct.
Humans have to be taught everything from the get-go.

Humans have to be taught everything from the get-go.Yea, humans are helpless to be sure. Whale's certainly 'teach' their young ones, though. Matter of fact, I believe the pod in general is a 'quasi parent' or something.
