I don't know if I've already posted this, but in any movie, if there is a young woman sitting alone having lunch or a cup of coffee by herself, a drop-dead gorgeous man happens by and asks if he can join her. A romance ensues.
That never happens IRL, at least that I've ever seen.

movieliker, I thought of another one. I think this is one, sort of: In murder mysteries, the one that everybody hates is the one that gets murdered, then an investigation ensues of all the suspects. The question, why would anybody even care who killed the hateful one? I don't know how old you are. But I'm 61. Most movies and TV shows aren't made for my age group. The biggest target audience is teens and twenties. Those people aren't as smart or experienced as I am. So to them a cliche is something new. And although you and I can see a cliche com'in a mile away, they can't. That's a problem for people like me. Most movies and TV shows are too immature, silly, stupid and predictable for me. ----- I was watching "365 days". It got great user reviews. I only got through about 25 percent of the movie. The reviewers were saying it was so romantic. The lead guy was a brutal mafioso criminal. He murdered a family member because he was supposedly stealing from the family. He threatened an investment firm with violence because his investments weren't making money. He sexually assaulted a stewardess on a private jet. But the movie had her walk off smiling because supposedly he was good looking and rich. He kidnaps a woman and holds her against her will, inspite of her objections, for 365 days. She was not good looking to me. She had a rich boyfriend who mistreated her. (I guess this appeals to young girls because --- "it could happen to me".) The whole first 25 percent of the movie took place in exotic locales. The characters had the most expensive and stylish (or trendy) cars, clothes, toys, etc. Before I turned it off she was beginning to fall in love with him because he was rich and powerful. I figured the user reviews were coming from young girls impressed by money and power. Who had no appreciation for morals or ethics. I don't like watching movies or TV shows about bad people doing bad things. But most movies and TV shows are about just that. I end up watching mostly the news and documentaries. Every now and then something good will come on. But to me, most movies and TV shows are garbage. They certainly don't appeal to a 61 year old.

But, I like meeting women that way. I think women like it too. They find it more romantic than being fixed up. Or dating a friend of a friend.

movieliker, I agree about that 'woman falls in love with rapist, bully, asshole, etc.' meme. That's not a new thing though. Even in the old b&w movies, the leading men would manhandle the woman at least once during the movie. Remember Gone with the Wind?

Police and military being portrayed as stupid. And whose only solution to everything is kill and destroy.

Police and military being portrayed as stupid. And whose only solution to everthing is kill and destroy. The military's only response to anything is to 'kill it' or 'shoot it down'.

High schools being portrayed as being ruled by bullies and cliques. I'm 61. I went to high school in the 70s. I didn't go to the same school all my elementary friends went to. I never had any problem with bullies or cliques. Same with my two sisters in the 80s. Usually the only characters are the victim, the victim's only friend, the bully, and his or her gang. All the other kids at the school (usually 100s) are portrayed as window dressing. There is nobody cool or decent in the the other 100s of kids that the victim could be friends with? Yes. Apparently some schools do have teh cliques but my high school didnt.

movieliker, I think I might have already posted this, but especially in the old movies, the leading man always gets forceful with the woman and manhandled her. Usually grabbing her by the shoulders and shaking her, or slapping her, and she's supposed to still be swooning over him. If a man ever grabbed me like that...well, let's just say that's a perfect position for a swift, hard knee to the balls.

That's why I say it's not fair to judge people 200 years ago by what's acceptable now. Things are different now. All these Social Justice Warriors wanting to tear down any statue of any man who had slaves . . . I can see a statue of a Confederate General. But for example, Andrew Jackson's statues were erected because he fought for the country's independence. More specifically winning the battle of New Orleans. Just because he had slaves too . . . Everybody had slaves back then. Including George Washington.

People having top secret meetings, and discussing top secret plans in crowded open air restaurants. In full view of 100s of people walking around, bustling street with traffic, and tall buildings around with windows.
Often there is somebody spying on them. So easy to do with their top secret meeting taking place somewhere that could not be more accessible to everyone.
(I think I've posted this before --- detectives talking about an investigation walking down a crowded street sidewalk, bumping into, and being bumped into by others walking on the crowded sidewalk. Sometimes they'll even stop at a street vendor and get something to eat, still talking about the investigation in front of the vendor and everybody in line. Of course, unlike in real life, nobody pays attention.)

movieliker, when you have something you don't want anyone to know, say it out loud around a crowd of people. Lol The old Sci-Fi movies are all formulaic: a team of scientists and one beautiful woman scientist who's usually the daughter of a highly respected scientist. I can't think of one old sci-fi movie where that's not the case. Once in a while, it's two women but that's rare.

Drivers not turning their heads to see if anybody is coming, before they pull out, or away from the curb. That actually happens IRL. A few weeks ago, some bitch almost backed into me. She didn't even look back. That happens a lot in parking lots. People exit the Starbucks where I live without even stopping or looking for oncoming cars. I'm surprised there hasn't been an accident yet.
